thecrookedkind asked: Hi there, love your blog! I'm currently writing a story that's set around 3000 years ago in Ancient Egypt. The story is in English, but I'm having a bit of a stylistic issue. So far I've written everything in relatively modern English (kind of like this message), but since the setting is historical, I feel it might be better to write in a more old-fashioned style (similar to LOTR, for example). What do you think?

Tazzy: Depending how you go about it, I think you should write it in an old-fashioned style. However, have you read any novels set in Ancient Egypt? I love Ancient Egyptian culture, but I haven’t looked into fiction for it, only non-fiction- I suggest that you should look around a bit, maybe flick through a few novels set in the same time period as yours, and see how the authors executed their stories. See which one you like best, and utilise that approach!

Emulating LOTR is a good idea, but you have to consider that its content is far removed from what you’re writing. That’s why I think you should consider looking into other authors who’ve written similar things to what you’re writing. :)

(If you still can’t decide, flip a coin! Either way, I’m sure you’ll make the right decision. :3 Best of luck with your story!)
