Anonymous asked: how do you write a novel about a topic no one knows anything about? like area 51, for example.
Tazzy: Do research into it. With almost any subject, there’s going to be a large range of information available- whether it’s fact or not is a different matter, however!
Let’s take the example of Area 51. I just Googled “Area 51” and a huge amount of things popped up. I’ve no doubt that if you looked around your local library, you could even find a number of books on the subject. What you want to do with any topic that “no one knows anything about” is do research into it. Review what you find. Keep references of where you got information from, cross reference it with other sources. What you want to do is have a wealth of knowledge at your disposal, so you can discard what you think is false, and what is fact/not AS false.
Once you have all of this, write your novel. Throughout the story, unfold information about what you’re referring to. There’s nothing wrong with putting non-fictional information in a novel. And, think of it like this- Lord of the Rings. It’s set in a fictional world, correct? No one knew anything about Middle-Earth before the books were written, so strictly speaking, it was a “topic no one [knew] anything about”. But Tolkien gives the reader information about its history, its layout, its populace- etc etc.
Basically, it boils down to knowing your subject, and then putting this knowledge into your writing. Simple as! :) I hope I helped, though.
